Wow...Hi, Wow.

Aston Shuffle did a gig at a prominent Darwin venue on Saturday as a part of their Clubber's Guide 2009 tour. We didn't stay for all of it, but they did quite a good show. One couldn't help but notice that they were slightly un-enthused (who could blame them?).

I'm always a bit skeptical when it comes to tours for mix compilations, as they don't usually stray too far from the tracklisting. Having said that they did play 'Love to Edit' by Crookers, which as far as I'm aware isn't on Clubber's Guide. The mixing was technical and very refreshing.

In other news; 'The Big Gig' in on this Saturday at Browns Mart. I highly urge everyone who isn't going to Pure Sounds to check out Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!. They're from Adelaide and have been getting radio play with Triple J as a part of 'Uneathed'. (When did that become a year long event?)

And of course Pure Sounds in the Park. The inaugural 'Hard Dance' music festival at the Amphitheater...what's that? You didn't know it was a Hard Dance event? Don't worry, neither did most people. However, I think everyone is looking for any excuse to down a whole lot of narcotics and let their inner 90's rave child in fat pants come out and get their stomp on. Highlights include....uhh Pee Wee Ferris (who knew he was still alive?), Amber Savage (an angry feminist who plays hard style...sexy) and of course, the high-flying Darwin duo doing a 'live show' (very excited to see what this entails).

New mixes coming soon.

How fucked up?

Mix from Newcastle Ned. Seriously one of the tightest mixes I've heard this year.

Ned – Totally Fuckin’ Mexico Mix <---- Mpeg - 54 mb.

Well plastic.

If you aren't excited about this movie, you had a depraved childhood.

President Fest

Apparently people are losing their shit over The Temper Trap at SXSW. (Hence the president fest - i.e all the Record Label boss' are trying to sign them at their shows)

And rightfully so. These guys have been touring relentlessly and frequent the Laneway festival. Plus it's kind of a big deal when Herve remixes your track.

The Temper Trap – Science of Fear (HervĂ© Dub Remix) <---- Herve's flawless dub remix. Mad love.

No word on the release date of their album yet.

Live Twitter

N.O.R.E checks his phone whilst rapping live on Jimmy Kimmel.

Douche.

It's actually a really good song and great to see Mstrkrft playing live. Vocals were a bit of a let down.

MID-WEEK GEEK

I just found out I'll be moving to Brisbane in 2 months. The blog will continue to function. I will have spies everywhere in Darwin reporting for me. Expect more reviews from the east coast.

No club or dj is safe from ridicule.

This weeks tracks.

Etienne De Crecy - Funk <---- Such a smooth track. This week's favourite.

Dj Mehdi – Tunisia Bambaata (Mercury Remix) <---- Beautiful piano and tight bass.

Grum – Go Back (Le Castle Vania Remix) <---- Melt your brain.

Darwin Dubstep

Who knew it existed?

Happy Yess will be throwing a dubstep gig this Friday - Bass Concussion: Blastcorp + Schmaltz will be playing some great dubstep, breaks and minimal.

There will also be a bass challenge!

Check out Blastcorp's myspace. www.myspace.com/blastcorp

SXSW

It's on once again.

I'm jealous because I'm not there once again.

Some amazing bands playing in the live music capital of the world (Austin, Texas). I won't list the artists as there are far too many. And it has already been published on Pedestrian.

Check out footage of Florence and the Machine playing last year. This is evidence of a pretty standard gig. Wayne Coyne might be busking, Gallows will be hanging from the ceiling, Aoki and his fucking entourage will be there.

It's probably the best festival in the world.

YLHCSD

It is estimated that almost 90% of all songs are written or inspired by love. In any form; heart break, dispair, loss, grief, lust etc etc.

Which is why it is refreshing to hear about a band who sing about nothing but...super heroes. "You Love Her Coz She's Dead" are signed to Kitsune and have been included on Maison 6. They bare an uncanny resemblence to Crystal Castles (Ethan & Alice anyone?).

They also featured in a recent episode of Skins (Season 3). Their Ep, "Inner City Angst" has just been released on Kitsune.

8-Bit Super Heroes.

LOOK AFTER YOUR VAGINA

Vive Cool City is a group of Melbourne cats that go around filming issues/topics raised by the viewers.

They are avid supporters of local music and have uncovered a heap of great bands.

(This probably isn't the best episode for example, but girls look after them!)

MID-WEEK GEEK

Everybody who loves hip hop should go and see Notorious. One of the best films ever. Also can't wait for the N.W.A biopic to come out as well.

Curses! – The Deep End (Bart B More Remix) <----Thanks to Voules Random. Great track.

Etienne De Crecy – Monsieur Jo Hanukkah (BeNi’s Swap Remix) <---- Aka 'Superdiscount'. Just played at Future. BeNi did a remix for him and vice versa for "My Love Sees You".

Lazy Jay – Float My Boat (Original Mix) <---- A surprisingly good house track.

Bonus.

Notorious B.I.G – Big Poppa <----Probably the greatest hip hop track ever. Smooth flow and tight lyrics.

Double Bonus.

- Another fine example as to how much of a douche T-Pain is. If anyone knows what his real voice sounds like, please let me know. Also, if anyone thinks that is actually what he sounds like, please don't read this blog....ever again.

Freeze

Photobucket

T-Pain feat. Chris Brown - Freeze

In the running for 2009's worst song and worst film clip. I can just imagine how the proposal went...

Executive: "Uh ok, Mr Pain, look you spend to much money on stupid top hats and grillz. As a result of this we have a very limited budget for your new single.

Pain: "Ohhh Mang!! Wha' da fuck yo! I ain't killin' nobody? Gimme some damn money you cracker bitch!"

Executive: Mr Pain your not making any sense. Anyway we've done some studies and the general public have been very responsive to Kanye's use of Voice Aid. Now we know you can't sing or rap so using Voice Aid is a given. Almost like you singing into a vocoder only you have no idea what that is.

Pain: "Money, white boy. Now!"

Executive: "Ok by law I have to tell you this, so please listen. Also, the 'beat boxing' in Justin Timberlake's track also worked well so we'll plagiarise some of that as well. And no doubt you've seen the clips that "So Me" has done for Kanye. Well, just like him we'll be copying Justice & Simian as they are creative. Only we can't afford So Me so we've got a 17 year old graphic designer to do your clip.

Pain: "Whurr ma' hoes?"

Executive: "What hoes? You can't afford them either. Also, Mr Brown, please don't attack or punch any of the women on the set as you are already facing charges. We know you have issues with women who are older and more successful that yourself so please refrain.

Pain: "Mang, get me my car."

Executive: "You don't have one, it was repossessed. We got you a bus ticket though...

Not the dubstep producer. (Obviously)

I've been looking for this clip for a while now. Hilarious.

Brandon Flowers

Dear Brandon,

You are not a musical visionary. I repeat, not.

You did not deserve to play on stage with The Pet Shop Boys.

You should stop wearing Pink Floyd-esque jump suits.

You are a douche.

I do not believe that is your real name. Not in a cool way like Frank Black (aka Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV). In a douche way, like your name is probably Bryan Flangerfield.

MID-WEEK GEEK

Let's hope March is a better month.

Busy P – Colette C’est Chouette <---- Some really tight scratching at the beginning of this track. A devotion track to their much loved Parisian Sisters at Colette. Rather shitty vocals. (Bit of a rough track, only 160 KBPS)

Brodinski – Bad Runner (Crookers Remix) <---- Quite a minimal track for a Crookers remix. Outstanding nonetheless.

Blackfinger – UMF (Supra1 Remix) <---- Really interesting dub step remix. **Thanks to 'You Can Call Me Pelski'.

BONUS!

Klaxons – No Diggity (Blackstreet Acoustic Cover) <---- I don't think people realise how good this track was. Dre in his prime, deep piano and a killer chorus. Quite a good cover. "Gettin' paid is our forte."

Double bonus for the haters.

I don't care that she has three nipples.

Or that she performed on "So You Think You Can Dance".

She is still a babe.

SKINS

Photobucket

This show is basically how you wanted to live out your adolescents. I think it's everyone's guilty pleasure.

Now in their third season, Skins has consistently provided one of the best/most up to date sound tracks for their episodes. Their themed episodes includes gems from the 70's as well as some of London's finest grime and hip hop.

They've also had guest appearances by Born Ruffians, Dizzee Rascal, Crystal Castles, Annie Mac and Pendulum to name a few. Their sound tracks are phenomenal and feature a lot of "Fat Segal". (A band from London who provided a the theme tune).

Various artists from their episodes include:

- Grizzly Bear
- Buraka Som Sistema
- Wu-Tang Clan
- White Stripes
- Asobi Seksu
- Mogwai
- The Kills
- Battles

etc etc.
