The Xx
Thought I'd devote a post to these guys as they've been on repeat all week. Hailing from South-West London "The Xx" are bringing dreamy pop thick and fast. I was lucky enough to have been sent their demo a few months ago and it saddens me to say that it sat collecting dust for a while.

MID-WEEK GEEK
**Photobucket keep quarantining the images. Here's the PG version.
As all of you minions prepare for Splendour I'd just like to send my condolences to the residents of Byron Bay and it's surrounding areas.
I haven't posted anything in a long time, so here's a heap of tracks.
The Bloody Beetroots - Warp 1.9 (Youth's Woop Woop Toop Toop Redeemed It Fix) <--- I almost brushed this track, but I saw Youth play the other night at Barsoma and this remix is so enjoyable. A sneaky fake drop and he's ditched the hard banging beat and replaced it with a "Toop Toop" sample from Cassius. Brilliant.
Pogo - Lost <--- A glitchy "Alice In Wonderland" sampled production. Nice and chilled.
Canyons - Blue Snakes <--- Saw them play to an unappreciative crowd. These guys are playing some of the best/most perculiar tracks - a mash of tribal, glitch, funk, kudoro, big beat, dance hall etc etc.
Renaissance Man - Rythym <--- From Kitusne 7.
Major Lazer - Hold The Line (DZ Remix) <--- Chosen by Mad Decent as one of the top 5 (cumulative total of 239879843) remixes. Skream's remix is pretty tight as well. A big wobbly remix.
Delorean - Deli (Acid Girls Remix) <--- Recent signee's to Kitsune...so like, you know it's good. Killer bass line.
Holy Ghost - I Will Come Back (Classixx Acapulco Nights Version) <--- Classixx can do no wrong. Another dreamy gem. Kind of like listening to the Beach Boys whilst in a K Hole.
Generationals - When They Fight, They Fight <--- Just a good track.
Also, coming up;
- Mightyfools at Monestary tomorrow night.
- Lost Valentinos at Barsoma on the 6th of August.
- Death or Glory (A tribute to The Clash) at The Troubador feat. Yves Klein Blue, We All Want To, The Honey Month, Black Mustang, The Disables.
- THE FUCKING GZA AKA THE GENIUS at The Hifi on the 16th of September.
*Update: The blog will be converted to a website soon enough. Also; expect mixes soon.
** Track quality is all over the place, some are Mpeg, some are 320 etc etc. Bonus Brilliance;
Dash Snow
Without knowing it, everyone has been influenced by Dash Snow. His work with IRAK, various art pieces, his polaroids and the infamous 'hamster room' in Paris.
He has now successfully joined the famed "27 Club". I won't try and provide a eulogy or history on him, there's enough out there.
He was real and all about living.
WE ARE HUNTED
With their research sources extending to all corners of the media stratosphere, such as Twitter, various blogs, Facebook, My Space, record label announcements, generic media etc. The most prevalent are unsurprisingly album leaks and artists in the media for the wrong reasons.
Hunted have taken the musical moral high ground over Hype Machine by only streaming songs or providing a youtube link, unlike it's counterpart, who have everyone believing it's perfectly legal/helping them sleep at night by providing links to blogs with "promotional tracks" to be downloaded.
It's not always appealing to everyone (P!nk and The All American Rejects have featured heavily), however it does provide an in-depth, honest list of the top 99 songs in the world.
Do yourself a favour and check it out.

Moth III: Classixx, Twist Oliver Twist!, Lady Boy, Not Cool Yet and Fashion by Kate Stein at Barsoma
This edition of Moth also heralded the launch of local overnight Brisbane designer Kate Feuerriegel’s label ‘Kate Stein’. Kate modestly agreed to provide a ‘live installation’ for her current line of leggings upstairs at Barsoma as opposed to a ‘fashion show’ as such – mainly to keep the crowd from revolting against “wanky models walking around whilst a dj is trying to play”. A self-confessed bedroom designer, Kate admitted that she started designing and selling her creations purely to supplement a dwindling uni student cashflow and to satisfy her friend’s demands for the pieces. The installation focussed on leggings and had pieces for both male and female. By "eliminating their previous affiliation with gym junkies/80's/g-string aerobic action”, Kate is providing taut, borderline risque legwear that is quite clearly in demand. On behalf of everyone, I’d like to congratulate Kate for her efforts last night and wish her the very best in a no doubt prosperous career ahead.
Onto the music. We arrived in time to see the end of Not Cool Yet’s set, who was playing a pleasant blend of minimal electro and subtle house. Lady Boy continued this vibe with some touches of indie crossover dance and more minimal.
Twist Oliver Twist were the only live band for the evening. Hailing from the Brisbane, TOT brought their blend of screaming synth and dominant bass lines to a more than receptive crowd who quite happily diverted their attention away from the dj booth to absorb the live aspect of the night. Their e.p is available through itunes, Amazon and at Rocking Horse.
A live midi keyboard introduction signalled the beginning of Classixx. I did a post about these guys not long ago in anticipation for their tour of Australia and I can safely say, they did not disappoint. Based on their string of remixes, one could expect that their set was going to be quite melodic – which is exactly what it was. A very minimal, almost tribal introduction made everyone ditch their cigarettes and the pit slowly filled with eager punters. Their track selection was somewhat mediocre - feature tracks included, the Au Revior Simone remix of 'Paris' by Friendly Fires, the CSS remix of 'Little Bit' by Lykke Li, 'Otto's Journey' by Mylo and a very noticeable/innapropriate drop to 'Je Veux Te Voir' by Yelle. Although they did make up for it with well-placed gems like 'Cut Dick' by Mr. Oizo, 'Kilometer' by Sebastien Tellier and some well placed Daft Punk samples.
The Bose sounds system did full justice to the music with super clear bass, I'd love for Barsoma to put on a dub gig. The second half of their set featured a lot of cow bell, which can never go wrong. Out of nowhere came Michael Jackson that even made the neo-goth, trench coat wearing douches dance. Their remix of "My Love Sees You" was the obvious closing track, such a dreamy remix.

Blu & Exile, Walrii & Danck and Rola D at Alhambra
Red Bull is essentially one of the biggest brands in the world. It has somewhat of an omnipresence in the sporting industry that is beyond dominant and it’s stranglehold on all things associated with sport is increasing ever so rapidly. Since its humble beginnings in 1998, the Red Bull Music Academy has created a college in the UK for budding musicians and producers as well as a radio station via their website. They displayed their prominence in Australia earlier this year when they sponsored Laneway Festival and had their own tent which featured artists such as Rusko, Harmonic 313, Dorian Concept, Buraka Som Sistema, El Guincho and Four Tet, needless to say, it was fucking killer.
As a part of the lecture arm of the academy, Red Bull organised for Blu & Exile to run an information night at the Judith Wright Centre in the Valley. True to their form, all reports say it was a very relaxed event where Blu & Exile were quite happy to discuss everything from lyrics to production.
A lot of recognition needs to go to the guys from Dank Morass for consistently providing Brisbane with quality up and coming producers/dj’s such as Loefah, Starkey, Flying Lotus, Farj and Joker. With places like Void in Sydney gaining for more popularity for their approach to dubstep, glitch, future beat etc, Brisbane can thank Dank Morass for putting us on the map as a destination for producers and dj’s alike.
We arrived in time to see the end of Rola D who was playing some incredible glitch and heavy dub, he did an exceptional job of preparing the crowd for the forthcoming dj’s. I’d never been to Alhambra before, but they seem to have the sound reasonably under control with clear, concise bass and piercing snare (unlike the 93 decibel limit at Hifi), however they don’t have a stage – which is a bit of a downfall…especially if you’re a midget such as myself. The delectable dub continued as Walrii and Danck took to the decks (the majority of the early sets were all vinyl, thoroughly impressed). There was a lot of new stuff being played along with notable tracks of the moment with touches of hip hop (Dub remix of ’99 Problems’ by Jay-Z and ‘Ear drum’ by Talib Kweli were stand outs).
There was a slow transition to hip hop as Exile began to set up and prepare the crowd for Blu. He opened strongly with a few minor tech problems then let loose with a barrage of quality hip hop from Nas to Busta, Dilla to Pharcyde and everything in between. The low point was when he dropped 50 Cent, however the crowd didn’t seem to mind as they were already sufficiently musically lubricated and waited eagerly for Blu to come on.
The young MC from South Central LA was energetic and had a confident stage presence as he ran through his first few tracks. Beer in hand and standing on a bass bin, he conversed with the crowd who were receptive and familiar with his bigger tracks from “Below the Heavens”. ‘The Narrow Path’, ‘Blu Collar Worker’ and ‘Good Life’ were all delivered with lyrical precision. Blu & Exile’s compatibility as a MC/Producer team is undeniably meticulous and they demonstrate this on stage very clearly and add a few touches that make their live shows exciting and captivating. The fact that they were willing to do this gig in the first place is evidence enough that Blu & Exile are passionate about their music, however it’s not until you see them live and experience their relaxed approach and see how much fun their having on stage that really solidifies their enthusiasm.

Modeselektor & Apparat = Moderat
"In recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three men began by renting studio space at the legendary Berlin Hansa Studios (where Bowie recorded 'Heroes') in order to record the album in analog with the help of the studio’s vintage tube technology and an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat." - BPitch Website via Goonie.
I don't even want to try and explain this music, just listen to it.
Modeselektor - Sucker Pin <--- From 'Happy Birthday!' Just a really good track.
Boys Noize - Shine Shine (Apparat Remix)
Moderat - Rusty Nails
Moderat - Out of Sight
Come Out to Plaaaay
I do love a good movie sample. Here Malakai have taken the vocals from the scene just before the epic fight at the end of the 1979 cult classic "The Warriors" on their track aptly titled "Warriors" from their album Ugly Side of Love that was released earlier this year.

Classixxxsshhhh
Classixx are Michael David and Tyler Blake were formally known as 'Young Americans', however they had to change their name for unknown legal reasons (Obama up in their grill?). Comin' straight outta L.A, David and Blake actually stand out from the other over zealous, talentless, artificial producers (i.e LA Riots, I Heart Comix dj's, Dan Oh etc).
One of the first things you realise about Classixx, is their dedicated focus to melodies. Snares and even harps feature frequently along with long drawn out bass lines. They're becoming quite notorious for remixing tracks and taking them to a completely new level.
BeNi - My Love See's You (Classixx Remix)
Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Remix)
Guns N' Bombs - Riddle of Steel (Classixx Remix)

Hell City Glamours & Gay Paris - The Oxford Art Factory
Hell City Glamours formed in 2003, however they only recently made it over to this years SXSW Festival where they caused a stir amongst label jerks and Austin rollers. In a time where Wolfmother, Eskimo Joe and The Galvatrons (that is the last time they will ever be mentioned on this blog) are considered to be at the forefront of Australian 'rock n roll', it's refreshing to see that actual hard working thrash rockers still exist.

Los Lazer
Recycle?
One of the most remixed tracks (currently) and has sufficiently flooded hype machine and the blogo-sphurrr. They're touring towards the end of the year - (Parklife, sureley). Anyone who saw Diplo last year will know how good this will be.

Dubstep on Ramsey St
Various street press and other opinionated publications now consider Caspa & Rusko to be sell outs due to their new found notiriety (Their Fabric mix was fucking killer). Along with Skream...apparently they have all succumb to the almighty dollar. I haven't really seen much evidence to back this up, but street press is gospel yeah?
Dubstep is one of the fastest growing genres I can think of and the crew/scene in the UK seems to be really tight and dedicated. I've been lucky enough to see Rusko and Harmonic 313 live and they are genuinely talented composers. I thought I'd post some tracks that I like regardless of popularity. Some left field minimal and heavier tracks, enjoy.
Caspa - Back to '93
Ital Tek - Red Sky
DMZ - Ancient Memories (Skream Remix)
Skream - Midnight Request Line
Benga - Night
Armand Van Helden - Bonkers (Doorly Dub Remix)
Bird Peterson - Zutopong
Yeah Zeke, put a fuckin donk onnit! Well mental.

Young Lovers Never Die
Herve's done dub and electro, Action Man's done house, The Count has inadvertantly done top 20 with Sinden, Machines Don't Care have just done electro-banger brilliance. So, just to prove he is a musical virtuoso, he's gone and put together The Young Lovers - which is essentially a horn-oriented funk project. Very jazzy, smooth basslines and just toe-tappingly enjoyable.
His self titled album is due out soon and from what I've heard so far, it's pretty fucking incredible.
The Young Lovers - Love You Madly <---Insanley good.
The Young Lovers - You Make Me Dizzy
And if that wasn't enough, I've also got him pipped for Dubstep Remix of the Year for his masterpiece that is "The Science of Fear" by The Temper Trap.
*Both tracks only at 170 KBPS, apologies.
GUTS.

Lost Valentinos, Ted & Francis and Tennis at The Annandale.
As it was my first time there, I arrived quite early to peruse the premises and get a feel for the place. To my surprise almost all of the musicians who were playing were quite happy to walk around and chat to the punters.
'Tennis' were the first support band. They absolutely blew me away. The 5-piece from Sydney (who, judging by their demo have recenlty signed to Modular) were very modest and quite happy to play for the 12 or so people in the crowd. I've heard that they have been touring mainly around the usual Sydney haunts and Modular Records being the tour enforcing demons they are will probably have them on a support slot some time in the near future...let's just hope they don't wear them out like Tame Impala.
Listing their influences as Sonic Youth, Joy Division, Brian Eno, Pixies, etc etc it's hard not to dismiss them with the other Sydney indie darlings (Amy Merideth and Mercy Arms anyone?) however, they actually delivered. The lead vocalist demonstrates a perfectly tuned Thom Yorke/Jeff Buckley whaling voice along with some fine guitar plucking skills. Judging by everyones reaction, the crowd seemed to thoroughly enjoy them as well. They ran through about 10 songs and ended with a marathon solo and distortion fest. Expect big things from these guys...hopefully not too big just yet. (R.I.P Temper Trap)
Tennis - Dancing On A Knife (WOW Remix)
Next up was Ted & Francis aka Like Woah!. (One couldn't help but think this was a Kitsune biased gig with Lost Valentinos and T&F both signed to the label). I've heard a couple of their tracks floating around, i.e Kitsune Maison 6 etc and wouldn't really consider myself to be a fan and their performance did nothing to change my thoughts. They failed to continue the happy vibe that Tennis began with and just droned through their tracks unenthusiastically. Their blend of dreamy pop and lo-fi trance did nothing for the crowd either, who were less than impressed.
Ted & Francis - I Wish I Was A Polar Bear(Arctic UrgencyEdit)
And finally, Lost Valentinos. I still haven't been able to find out why they changed their name from "The Valentinos". (There is a pub down the road that is called 'Valentinos'?) These guys have always been rather apathetic when it comes to official releases and track information, having released three EP's, 2 singles from the new album and still no solid confirmation on a release date.
Now, I've seen them twice before and they failed to pique my interest, but I thought I'd give them another chance. They delved into their back catalogue with some of my favourites (Man With a Gun, Rain, Kafka and so on) before moving onto their newer tracks and the crowd reacted quite well. 'Bismarck' and 'Serio' were the obvious stand out tracks. So after what seemed to be years of building a decent rep and recruiting Jonathon Zawada for their artwork and Fan Death for a re-work, they seem to be well on their way to stardom and with the amount of hype "Cities of Gold" is receiving, there isn't too much preasure to deliver... And they had Dave Ma direct their clip, I still don't know how they pulled that.
Lost Valentinos – Midnights (Fan Death Re-Work)

Walter Meego – Through a Keyhole (Le Castle Vania Remix)
MID-WEEK GEEK
MIT – Rauch (Crystal Fighters Remix) <---- Bit of Baile Funk for ya'll. Kind of like what Bonde Do Role would sound like if Marina hadn't left and they didn't succumb to the MTV baddies.
Charlie Why? – Lips (Spruce Lee Inner Jungle Remix) <---- Charlie Why? is touring with Le Castle Vania at the moment. Spruce Lee (part of Sydney's Ro Sham Bo) provides a tight remix.
Goshi Goshi – The Lock Shot <---- I don't know what to say about this track. It's infectious. It does all the right things.
Thanks to You Can Call Me Pelski.
la la love.

Wow...Hi, Wow.
I'm always a bit skeptical when it comes to tours for mix compilations, as they don't usually stray too far from the tracklisting. Having said that they did play 'Love to Edit' by Crookers, which as far as I'm aware isn't on Clubber's Guide. The mixing was technical and very refreshing.
In other news; 'The Big Gig' in on this Saturday at Browns Mart. I highly urge everyone who isn't going to Pure Sounds to check out Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!. They're from Adelaide and have been getting radio play with Triple J as a part of 'Uneathed'. (When did that become a year long event?)
And of course Pure Sounds in the Park. The inaugural 'Hard Dance' music festival at the Amphitheater...what's that? You didn't know it was a Hard Dance event? Don't worry, neither did most people. However, I think everyone is looking for any excuse to down a whole lot of narcotics and let their inner 90's rave child in fat pants come out and get their stomp on. Highlights include....uhh Pee Wee Ferris (who knew he was still alive?), Amber Savage (an angry feminist who plays hard style...sexy) and of course, the high-flying Darwin duo doing a 'live show' (very excited to see what this entails).
New mixes coming soon.

And rightfully so. These guys have been touring relentlessly and frequent the Laneway festival. Plus it's kind of a big deal when Herve remixes your track.

No word on the release date of their album yet.

It's actually a really good song and great to see Mstrkrft playing live. Vocals were a bit of a let down.

SXSW
I'm jealous because I'm not there once again.
Some amazing bands playing in the live music capital of the world (Austin, Texas). I won't list the artists as there are far too many. And it has already been published on Pedestrian.
Check out footage of Florence and the Machine playing last year. This is evidence of a pretty standard gig. Wayne Coyne might be busking, Gallows will be hanging from the ceiling, Aoki and his fucking entourage will be there.
It's probably the best festival in the world.

Which is why it is refreshing to hear about a band who sing about nothing but...super heroes. "You Love Her Coz She's Dead" are signed to Kitsune and have been included on Maison 6. They bare an uncanny resemblence to Crystal Castles (Ethan & Alice anyone?).
They also featured in a recent episode of Skins (Season 3). Their Ep, "Inner City Angst" has just been released on Kitsune.
8-Bit Super Heroes.

Freeze
T-Pain feat. Chris Brown - Freeze
In the running for 2009's worst song and worst film clip. I can just imagine how the proposal went...
Executive: "Uh ok, Mr Pain, look you spend to much money on stupid top hats and grillz. As a result of this we have a very limited budget for your new single.
Pain: "Ohhh Mang!! Wha' da fuck yo! I ain't killin' nobody? Gimme some damn money you cracker bitch!"
Executive: Mr Pain your not making any sense. Anyway we've done some studies and the general public have been very responsive to Kanye's use of Voice Aid. Now we know you can't sing or rap so using Voice Aid is a given. Almost like you singing into a vocoder only you have no idea what that is.
Pain: "Money, white boy. Now!"
Executive: "Ok by law I have to tell you this, so please listen. Also, the 'beat boxing' in Justin Timberlake's track also worked well so we'll plagiarise some of that as well. And no doubt you've seen the clips that "So Me" has done for Kanye. Well, just like him we'll be copying Justice & Simian as they are creative. Only we can't afford So Me so we've got a 17 year old graphic designer to do your clip.
Pain: "Whurr ma' hoes?"
Executive: "What hoes? You can't afford them either. Also, Mr Brown, please don't attack or punch any of the women on the set as you are already facing charges. We know you have issues with women who are older and more successful that yourself so please refrain.
Pain: "Mang, get me my car."
Executive: "You don't have one, it was repossessed. We got you a bus ticket though...

Brandon Flowers
You are not a musical visionary. I repeat, not.
You did not deserve to play on stage with The Pet Shop Boys.
You should stop wearing Pink Floyd-esque jump suits.
You are a douche.
I do not believe that is your real name. Not in a cool way like Frank Black (aka Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV). In a douche way, like your name is probably Bryan Flangerfield.

MID-WEEK GEEK
Busy P – Colette C’est Chouette <---- Some really tight scratching at the beginning of this track. A devotion track to their much loved Parisian Sisters at Colette. Rather shitty vocals. (Bit of a rough track, only 160 KBPS)
Brodinski – Bad Runner (Crookers Remix) <---- Quite a minimal track for a Crookers remix. Outstanding nonetheless.
Blackfinger – UMF (Supra1 Remix) <---- Really interesting dub step remix. **Thanks to 'You Can Call Me Pelski'.
BONUS!
Klaxons – No Diggity (Blackstreet Acoustic Cover) <---- I don't think people realise how good this track was. Dre in his prime, deep piano and a killer chorus. Quite a good cover. "Gettin' paid is our forte."
Double bonus for the haters.
love love.

SKINS
This show is basically how you wanted to live out your adolescents. I think it's everyone's guilty pleasure.
Now in their third season, Skins has consistently provided one of the best/most up to date sound tracks for their episodes. Their themed episodes includes gems from the 70's as well as some of London's finest grime and hip hop.
They've also had guest appearances by Born Ruffians, Dizzee Rascal, Crystal Castles, Annie Mac and Pendulum to name a few. Their sound tracks are phenomenal and feature a lot of "Fat Segal". (A band from London who provided a the theme tune).
Various artists from their episodes include:
- Grizzly Bear
- Buraka Som Sistema
- Wu-Tang Clan
- White Stripes
- Asobi Seksu
- Mogwai
- The Kills
- Battles
etc etc.

MID-WEEK GEEK
Adele – Hometown Glory (Chewy Chocolate Cookies Remix) <---- I hate their name. And laughed when I saw they had remixed this, but they have actually pulled it off. Beautiful track by the London songstress (i.e the less annoying Duffy). The remix is only short but has a dubstep element to it, really interesting.
Kid Cudi Vs. Crookers – Day ‘N’ Night (Rusko’s Big Trombone Remix)<---- Normally I wouldn't post this, but it's the best dubstep remix I've heard of it. Typical Rusko; filthy bass with bleeps.

Not Today
I will however draw attention to the following:
Verbatim.
"According to the menu, the cocktail is a fusion of babicka wormwood, vodka, parma pomegranite liqueuer, paraiso lychee liqueuer and fresh watermelon topped with Dom Perignon".
First of all it's Babicka Wormwood Vodka. (Vodka that is distilled from Wormwood) and it's PAMA Pomegranite Liqueuer. Why must the NT News embarass themselves further? Furthermore, minus the champagne this cocktail would run for approximately $15. (Currently retailing for $500)
Seriously, leave it alone. Drink it in a chilled flute with no accompaniments.
Poor Bastard.
"Come quick! I am tasting the stars!"
- Dom Perignon upon first tasting champagne.

MID-WEEK GEEK
Bird Peterson – Pete Goes Off
Bird Peterson – The Essence
Tracks are MPEG so just make sure you save them properly.
Hudson Mohawke or "Hud Mo" is a producer from Scotland. His approach fuses electro, prog, some odd vocals and dirty beats. "Overnight" is taken from his e.p from last year titled "Polyfolk Dance". Only a short track but very refreshing nontheless.
Hudson Mohawke – Overnight
So Techy, So Gay
KB – So Techy, So Gay Mix
Really pleasant mix. Only about half an hours worth.
Bonus epic boobs shot.

DAEDELUS BABY
This is footage of Daedelus (aka Alfred Darlington) playing on the Dublab Rooftop in LA. He's been making music since 2001 (or prior) on various record labels such as Ninja Tune, Warp and Mush Records.
I have been slightly obsessed with his work for a while now and I noticed that both he and Four Tet use some fascinating gadgets live. After seeing Little Boots use one on Later With Jules I had to find out more about it.
Daedelus has been one of the dominant pioneers of using the 'Monome' live. A Monome is a grid with backlit buttons that connects to a computer by USB and OSC Protocol. It was invented by musician Brian Crabtree in 2005. They are quite rare and have a very limited production line. Essentially it allows for a greater diversity of functionality over differing musical software applications.
A few things I have picked up from various research;
- Each row triggers a loop and you can change the loop's speed and direction.
- Buttons can be sequenced and looped automatically.
- Rows are the duration and columns are the pitch.
The name Monome is derived from the mathematical term 'Monomial', a gesture to the concept of many variables made possible through something that is nevertheless singular or simple in nature. As you can see, it provides endless possibilities when playing live.
"More than anything I wanted a controller that could dynamically adapt to different uses".
"By sharing as much as possible, we encourage others to do the same".
"Community enthusiasm has allowed us to exist without the traditional business avenues".
- Crabtree et al.

"Kid Cuti"
If anyone was listening to Hot 100 at approximately 16:00 hours on the 16th of February 2009 they would have heard the radio presenter say the following:
Verbatim.
"I think Limewire is about the meltdown because we just had so many people calling up to find out the name of that song. It was 'Day and Night' by 'Kid Cuti' remixed by Crookers. It is 'brand new' music to Hot 100".
Not only was this track released in July 2008, his name is KID CUDI. Furthermore, why does this presenter feel the need the blatantly promote limewire on air? This is exactly what we're trying to stop with this blog.
Kid Cudi or Scott Mescudi to his mum, is a young MC from Ohio who is signed to Fools Gold Records (A-Trak's Label). He is an amazing freestyle rapper and I urge everyone to go out and PAY for his album "Plain Pat Presents a Kid Named Cudi".
iTunes and Beatport both have the album and the remix available for purcahse on their respective sites.
peace and love from the blogosphere.

ITM # 1
Now, I was a little sceptical about a Trance Dj playing at a venue that typically plays house/electro/mainstream etc, however not to be discouraged, he took to the stage with a half capacity crowd. The less than enthusiastic punters weren’t exactly receptive to his opening track nor his second (I thought 'Angel on my Shoulders' was a sure thing?).
He then made the very odd transition into some live Daft Punk which shook the crowd a little, however he still needed help from the MC to get the crowd going.
We left after about half an hour still not convinced he deserved the number 1 spot.
Post Scipt: Yo Tydi, what's with your shoes? ITM # 1 and your still wearing those white budget adidas-esque sneakers?

RIP! - Forum
Above is a link to a trailer of a movie which is premiering in a few cinema's around Australia. It has won a swag of awards and is really causing controversy.
It's a documentary loosley based around Greg Gillis aka Girl Talk and the copyright/remix culture. I won't give my full opinion on this as I'm in two minds about the whole concept, but I would like open a forum (the first ever on Weird Boobs) as to what you think about downloading, the record industry, copyright and everything in between. Click on the comment section below.
I won't lie and say that I don't like Girl Talk and preach that he has sold out etc, because he is a very talented composer. And he has openly admitted that he is not a dj and remains very level headed about his fame. (Feed the Animals is his 4th studio record)
The fact that Triple J has picked him up and shaken his mash up mastery all over Australia shouldn't really take away from the fact that up until recently he worked a full time job and only did his music as side project and is a very talented individual. He also adopted the Radiohead policy of "pay what you feel" with his new album, so I do have a fair bit of respect for him.
On the other hand, he can be labelled as a "One Trick Pony" who essentially steals or 'samples' other artists' music, jams it all together to make a song that comprises of a lot of genuinely good songs. This leads into the debate regarding copyright, the music industry, downloads, supporting musicians etc etc. As well as the issue of dj's being paid to play in clubs using music that they haven't rightfully paid for.
Here at Weird Boobs we are avid supporters of sites such as Beatport and even iTunes at a stretch. After all the musicians wouldn't be making music if they had no financial backing and support. Below are a few quotes from the trailer.
"The same thing is happening with copyright that happened with masturbation, people are actually starting to admit to each other "Yeah...I do it too"."
"Sharing is the nature of creation."
"If this is a crime, then we have a whole generation of criminals."
Thanks to my sister for this info.

LUN DUN
Hailing from NYC, London released a mixtape with 'Machine Drum' in January this year that garnered a decent amount of hype. Two tracks have been released.
Theophilus London – Crazy Cousins
Theophilus London – Always Love You <---- Sampling "Always Love You" by none other than "Don't call me Whitney Bobby" Ms. Houston.
Both at 320.

MID-WEEK GEEK
Verbatim: "It sounds like the dj started getting into electronic music in 2006, bought a heap of ministry compilations and never really expanded from their..."
How could we forget Discovery? Resident dj dropped the remix of "White Noise" by Living End that stole the 'Wow...bass' from Crookers which went straight into a hip hop mega mix circa '95. (Consisting of California Love...scratching included)
Enjoy the following delights.
Passion Pit – Sleepy Head (LOL Boys Remix) <---- One of the best tracks of 2K8. Boston based group who's lead singer wrote the e.p for his girlfriend then decided to give it to his friends as well. Highly rec their e.p 'Chunk of Change' available on itunes. Never heard of the LOL Boys but the remix is a gem.
Autechre – Bike <----- From Manchester signed to Warp Records. Similar to Squarepusher and Aphex Twin (If I may make that comparison). Beautiful track. At 780 KBPS as well!!
Dj Sneak (Feat. Kid Infinity) – Droppin’ Kisses (Herve Edit) <----Reppin' Chii-town. Sneak is an amazing turntablist. As per usual, Herve made it a great club track with a quirky beat and tight bassline.

Little Bootslhh
Weird Boobs loves her for the following reasons:
- She sings with a lisssp.
- She recruited Fake Blood to remix her track "Stuck on Repeat" (One of the finest remixes of the last year)
- She uses a stylophone live.
- She goes on Later with Jules!
- She reps a double side braid.
V.V Brown – Leave (Feat. Little Boots) <---- V.V Brown is signed to Island Records, voted #8 on Vogue's Don't Miss List. Blah blah I just love the vocals.
Posted by J.
*Thanks to Big Stereo for the heads up on this and BiBaBiDi for the V.V Brown Track.
** Track is only 128 KBPS.
Shane-o's Farewell - The Fox
Weirdboobs weird dudes, J & K and special guest Spermwhale took over the Fox on Mitchell Street on Saturday night for the farewell of partygoer and weirdboobs enthusiast Shano.
The crowd were blessed with Spermwhale's selection of deep minimalistic sounds and tech delight. The atmosphere felt was like no other place in Darwin, the intriguing sounds brought people off the street inside with interest piqued.
All in all it was a great night, only to be disappointed when we left to another venue which we will not name! We recorded the sets of kb and have posted them up for you all. Spermwhale's mixes will be posted shortly keep checking back, a preview of Spermwhale's sounds can be heard on the first 10mins of KBs set.
KB's set was a fusion of deep progressive and filthy electro. A few sound and tech issues (silence at 20 minutes 32 secs) didn't stop him from throwing down a very enjoyable set. And to finish off his complete and utter disregard for genres in general, he even threw in a dubstep finale with some Rusko and Tron.
The mixes are only 128 KBPS, our apologies. Once again, playlists can be supplied upon request and the photo's are on that social networking site.
Many thanks to those who attended and weird boobs wishes Shano the best of luck with his future endeavors. MAY THE HUMAN TRIANGLE DOMINATE THE WEST COAST. ***Sorry the photo's are fucked. Blogspot is shit. Click on them for a full view.
