Darwin - Far Behind in Both Music and Fashion?

The Darwin nightlife is what you would call commercial, no depth and leaves a bad taste in your mouth at the end of the night. I'm sick of going out and seeing people who tell me how much they hate the same clique clubs and djs but they still continue to go out and throw their hard earned money away. When something good comes along, ie. SNAFU's first night Vs. Pajama Party @ Discovery, guess where everyone went? The fact that SNAFU had Jaime Doom from the Bang Gang Deejays (One of the most sort after dj's, played with Daft Punk on the Nevereverland Tour, Modular) people still went to the pajama party, because "oh fuck yeah, we can wear our pajamas to Discovery on a normal night and get slapped with a $30 entry fee?" Fair enough SNAFU's timing was out, promo was not as good as it could of been, people knew about it but chose the same shit. Whenever other promoters throw events they are all taking a huge risk because of the mentality of the Darwin people.

Disappointment is the new club Hot Potato, the name says it all, we were all promised something different but whenever it comes down to it no one is game enough in this city to take a risk. I'm not saying I'm the cutting edge of music, but there has to be more choice for the Darwin nightowls? I appreciate all forms of music, but when the same songs are being played in the same order every weekend something is severely wrong.

In the end the locals dj's and promoters that steer clear of the clique and monotonous musical directions need to step up and educate the people. But first they need to get given a chance? Will this happen in 2009 only time will tell, we will give it a good shot...
