"Does alternative music still exist?" Of course it does you fucking tit. Just because a band who were relatively unknown until post sophmore albums start selling out stadiums does not mean that alternative music has died. Furthermore, just because The Triple J Hottest 100 featured mainstream artists in the top 10 does not warrant this comment either. Triple J is a nation wide radio station that appeals to a broad demographic. Essentially it is a radio station for everyone who wants to feel like they listen to alternative music.
The Hottest 100 clocked over 800, 000 votes hence the majority of the votes are going to be the most popular/mainstream.
In closing, Murdoch Media can get fucked.

i was having a convo about this the other day, mix feelings. it s funny, almost as though everyone one is fixated on trying to listen to alternative music to the point where it just becomes mainstream...
but hey if music is making you feel good, who gives a fuck what genre it comes from... right?
